The Will of Edith Collett of Over Slaughter

made on 18th November 1597

and proved in 1598

(Edith was the second wife of Henry Collett (Ref. 1E3)

 

 

 

 

 

In the name of God Amen the eighteenth day of November in the year 1597 and in the none and thirtieth year of the reign of Our Sovereign Lady Elizabeth by the Grace of God of England France and Ireland Queen Defender of the faith

 

I Edith Collett of Over Slaughter in the County of Gloucester widow being sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance do ordain and make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following

 

First I do give and bequeath my soul to Almighty God my body to be buried in the church or churchyard of Over Slaughter aforesaid as it shall please my executors hereinafter named

 

I do give to the poor the sum of eight pence to every poor house

 

I do give to the Alms Houses of St Edwards six pence to every house

 

I do give to every godchild I have ? pence

 

I give to Joan Arnold the daughter of Thomas Arnold all and four of my apparel ____  the six of my best pewter _______ only accepted the _____ of the same pieces I give to the said Joan and my second best pewter my silver pin my best hat and one pair of sheets

 

I give to Alice the daughter of the said Thomas Arnold

 

I do give to Marie the daughter of the said Thomas Arnold my little silver pin a pillow and my third best pewter

 

I give unto Elizabeth daughter of Richard Rooke of Emb my fourth best pewter

 

I give to every one of Thomas Arnold’s sons and to every one of his daughters Joan, Alice and Mary

 

I give to every one of Thomas Avro’s sons ______ Henry Avro and William Avro the sons of the said Thomas Avro to be delivered during the third month after my decease to the sons of Henry and William

 

My funerals ended and legacies paid all of which I do leave to the said Henry and William to accompt and I do ordain and make well beloved son Thomas Arnold to be my executor and I do further appoint and desire my well beloved friends Thomas Collett and Thomas Carter to be my overseers of this my last Will and Testament in that it be thoroughly performed according to the ________ thereof and for their payment I do give them twelve pence a piece those being my witnesses
